In a highly unusual move, New York City has brought a lawsuit -- City of New York v. Shamtoub -- against multiple dental practices in Brooklyn alleging various charges of consumer fraud under New York City's consumer protection law.  The case targets the dental professional corporation entities rather than individual dentists.  The case is unusual because it bypasses going through the New York State Education Department's Office of Professional Discipline (OPD) as well as the New York State Attorney General's office that has typically handled such consumer complaints when it involves the use of credit card financing issues.  You can read the official complaint filed in court by New York City here: New York City Court Complaint Against Dental Offices.
