HHS OIG Issues Opinion on Free Dental Services
The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has issued an advisory opinion allowing a pediatric orthodontic practice to offer free orthodontic services to a select few patients in their practice who were needy. What is interesting are all the guardrails that had to be put in place by the dental practice to avoid having the arrangement be deemed illegal, including not trying to use the program as a marketing tool and limiting it to a very small number of existing patients.
