GAO Issues Report on Medicaid Managed Care and Children's Health Screenings
The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report on the extent to which Medicaid managed care plans are providing required health screenings of children, including dental examinations. GAO found that about 85 percent of the 33 million children covered by Medicaid were enrolled in managed care plans and that many managed care plans used special incentives to get children to come in for health screenings. The study did not focus specifically on New York, but on four other representative states -- North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Washington.
