Almost 7% of U.S. workers experienced high levels of economic hardship (the inability to meet basic needs) in 2022-2023. Economic hardship and poor health were most elevated among workers in Farming, Fishing, and Forestry occupations, followed by Building and Grounds Cleaning and Maintenance and Food Preparation and Serving occupations. Workers who are Hispanic or have lower incomes and education levels also had elevated levels of economic hardship and fair or poor health.
