What is the ACD Mentoring Lecture Program:

The ACD Mentoring Lecture Program is structured so that it benefits everyone involved, creating a direct relationship between student and mentor. Experienced dentists have the opportunity to step up as mentors and students learn about the culture of leadership, ethics, and professionalism by example. The program has gained local recognition with all New York metropolitan area hospitals participating, helping to satisfy their ADA CODA requirements for ethics and practice management.

Lecture Description:

This lecture explores the relationship between early jaw growth and development, the airway, and dental and medical concerns that may present throughout childhood and into adulthood. By connecting the dots between craniofacial development, breathing, sleep, and oral health, we will discuss how dental professionals can recognize developmental concerns early and understand when intervention may be appropriate. The presentation will emphasize looking beyond individual dental symptoms to consider the underlying growth, functional, and airway factors that may contribute to them. It will also highlight the importance of collaboration among dental, medical, and allied healthcare professionals when evaluating and managing these patients.

The goal is to help clinicians connect the dots early - recognizing that the way a child breathes, sleeps, grows, and develops can have implications that extend well beyond the teeth.

Speaker: Dr. Scott C. Province

Dr. Scott C. Province is a general dentist with more than 30 years of clinical experience and a strong commitment to treating the underlying causes of dental and airway-related problems - not simply their symptoms. Born and raised in Ohio, Dr. Province earned his degree in Biology from the University of Tampa in 1989 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1993. Following dental school, he served five years on active duty in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, including an assignment in Heidelberg, Germany. Dr. Province has been in private practice in New York City since 1998. In 2025, he founded Airway Health Dentistry in his hometown of Montclair, New Jersey, with a focus on early intervention and airway-centered dental care. He is a passionate advocate for identifying and addressing dental and airway concerns early in childhood. His philosophy is to help children develop healthier jaws and airways, sleep and breathe better, and ultimately thrive - while setting the foundation for simpler orthodontic care and better overall health as they move into adulthood.
