Part 1 Lecture Description:

Myths, Hype and Tall Tales About Laser Dentistry

Lasers have been promoted to cure practically every dental malady known to man.  From totally anesthesia-free operative dentistry to drastically reducing periodontal pockets (and more), some laser companies have engaged in promoting plenty of exaggerations, misconceptions, and outright falsehoods about what lasers can actually perform.  The purpose of this course is to delve through the peer-reviewed literature to demonstrate what lasers can and cannot do – and to help you select the best laser for your practice.

    Learning Objectives:

    • What treatment lasers are capable of performing
    • What lasers cannot yet perform
    • Which laser might be the best fit for your practice

    Part 2 Lecture Description:

Laser Use In Fixed Prosthetic and Implant Dentistry

Dentists have a variety of wavelengths to choose from when deciding which laser is most appropriate for his or her practice.  Some wavelengths are perfectly suited for periodontal therapy, while other wavelengths may be more appropriate for a prosthetics-driven practice.  Upon completion of this course, participants will be familiar with the use of lasers for specific procedures found in a prosthetics-driven practice.  They will be able to incorporate this knowledge into a basis for determining which laser wavelength is most appropriate for their practice, and be able to incorporate hard and soft tissue laser dentistry into their practices first thing tomorrow morning. The use of lasers for specific procedures found in everyday fixed and implant prosthetic cases will be highlighted.

Specific procedures to be discussed include:
    • Soft and hard tissue crown lengthening
    • Cordless gingival troughing
    • Cosmetic recontouring of gingival prior to laminate placement- Creation of the ideal golden proportion
    • Treatment of altered passive eruption cases
    • Peri-implant soft tissue modification and treatment of peri-implantitis
    • Ovate pontic site formation
