Prescribers licensed to treat humans and who have a DEA registration number to prescribe controlled substance or who prescribe controlled substances under a facility DEA registration number, must complete a one time (8) hours of work or training in pain management, palliative care, and addiction. The requirement applies to all DEA registration submissions (Schedules II, III, IV, and V)—regardless of whether it is an initial registration or a renewal registration—beginning on or after June 27, 2023.
This course covers the material needed to satisfy the Federal Mandated Pain Management, Palliative Care and Addiction Education requirements as well as can be applied towards the every three year Mandatory New York State requirement. It is designed for all prescribers of controlled substances. Through literature reviews, case studies and professional experience you will understand your role in combating the current opioid epidemic.
Course Objectives:
- Review state and federal requirements for prescribing controlled substances;
- Establish a pain management plan for your office;
- Utilize appropriate prescribing practices;
- Manage acute pain;
- Palliative medicine, medical marijuana and CBD
- Prevention, screening and signs of addiction;
- Responses to abuse and addiction;
- End of life care.
New York and Federal DEA Continuing Education Training Program for Controlled & Illicit Substances.
On December 29 th.,2022 in addition to the Mandatory Biennial PA Opioid requirement the Federal Government passed the Consolidation Appropriations Act of 2023. This act requires all providers with a DEA to obtain eight hours of continuing education.
This 3 hour program reinforces your prior training and can be applied towards the NY State 3 hour mandated Pain Management, Palliative Care and Addiction Education requirements with an emphasis on the new federal requirement it can be applied towards the federal 8 hour requirement.
It is designed for all prescribers of controlled substances. Through literature reviews, case studies and professional experience you will understand your role in combating the current opioid epidemic.
Dr. Gottlieb is on staff at Stony Brook University Hospital. He has advanced training in anesthesiology and works with apprehensive patients. Dr. Gottlieb maintains a full time private practice in Levittown, New York.
