There are five items of interest to dentistry on the December 2022 New York State Board of Regents meeting agenda: 1) the appointments of Dr. Aristotle Lyssikatos [2nd District] and Dr. Michael McGarvey [5th District] to initial five year terms on the New York State Board for Dentistry, the reappointment of Dr. Evelyn Salgado-Parilla [5th District] to a second and final five year term on the New York State Board for Dentistry, and the initial appointment of Dr. Bruce Seidberg [5th District] to a five year term as an extended member of the New York State Board for Dentistry [extended members are no longer members of the State Board for Dentistry, but serve solely for purposes of licensure disciplinary and/or licensure restoration and moral character panels]; 2) the registered dental assisting regulations conforming to the new law allowing registered dental assistants to place and remove temporary restorations; 3) the Regents 2023 regulatory agenda [one dental regulatory amendment is listed to replace Parts I and II of the National Board Examination in dentistry with the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INDBE)]; 4) the final Regents 2023-2024 legislative and State Budget priorities [which include $5.16 million in increased Office of the Professions appropriation authority for modernization of the licensing process], with a supplemental presentation; and 5) the Regents designation of the 2023 physician shortage areas.
