FDA Issues Proposed Rules Prohibiting Flavored Tobacco Products

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued proposed rules to prohibit menthol as a characterizing flavor in cigarettes and to prohibit all characterizing flavors other than tobacco in cigars.  FDA notes that these actions have the potential to significantly reduce disease and death from combusted tobacco product use, the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, by reducing youth experimentation and addiction, and increasing the number of smokers that quit.  To read the FDA announcement and summary of its proposed rules to prohibit menthol and other flavors in tobacco products, use the link below.
