The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued, as part of its latest Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), two reports: 1) on overall mortality rates; and 2) on mortality rates from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). CDC notes that data indicates a rise in mortality rates overall and that COVID-19 was the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer.
