Effective May 24, 2019, new radiation equipment control regulations will apply in New York City. New York State is not following these changes. However, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOH) is authorized to establish its own radiation control regulations. In particular, the New York City regulations will more stringently regulate cone beam computed tomography equipment in dental offices, calling for annual inspections and semiannual quality assessments by licensed medical physicists.
