The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued Congressional testimony on the ongoing efforts of the United States Veterans Administration (VA) to transition to a new Veterans Community Care Program (VCCP), where veterans could obtain health care services from community health care providers. GAO found that the ongoing VA implementation of VCCP needs to take into account problems with the previous program: 1) complex referral and appointment scheduling processes; 2) incomplete and unreliable data on the timeliness of veterans' access to care; and 3) a lack of timely payments to community providers.
