The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued a report on enrollment in private health insurance. GAO found that private health insurance remains a concentrated market with the 3 largest companies holding 80% or more of the market in at least 37 states. In addition, GAO found available data on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) health benefits exchanges had similar trends, with 3 or fewer companies holding 80% or more of the market in at least 46 of 49 exchanges for individuals and 42 of 46 exchanges for small employers.
