Be sure to renew your permit every two years and have an inspection every 5 years.

City inspectors keep a log of permit renewal and inspection dates.
They can issue a ticket by mail or send a city inspector to a practice that is out-of-date with regard to their permits and inspections.

• A permit for your x-ray equipment must be renewed every 2 years (including CBCT scans which also require an annual calibration).
• X-Ray equipment must be inspected by a Certified Radiological Equipment Safety Officer (CRESO) every 5 years.

Contact the NYC Department of Radiological Health (718) 786-6002 or email orh@health.nyc.gov to check your last inspection date. Have your “record number” available (which can be found on your permit) when contacting either department.

Have you CLOSED or SOLD your practice?
Your x-ray permit is not transferrable. Permits are specific to each dental practice and are not transferable from one owner to another. The permit is also not transferrable to another address or suite even for the same owner.

When was your last x-ray inspection? Marty Schnee with Big Apple Radiation Safety is the certified radiation equipment safety officer (CRESO) recommended by NYCDS. Mr. Schnee is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. He will not only inspect your equipment, he will educate you and your staff about proper usage and compliance.
