NYCDS would like to recognize the volunteer initiative Dr. Maurice Edwards is involved with on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to help those less fortunate.

Dr. Edwards is president of the Gamma Iota Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., the fraternal organization behind the MLK Day of Service taking place in Brooklyn today. He is a past president of NYCDS and its current NYSDA Trustee.
Alpha Phi Alpha is the oldest collegiate Black Greek Letter Fraternity established for African-American men. Since its founding in 1906, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has supplied voice and vision to the struggle of African-Americans and people of color around the world. Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, Martin Luther King Jr., Adam Clayton Powell Jr., and many others serve as shining examples of Alpha through the years. They embody a legacy of excellence that is continued by the Fraternity.
