We have all been affected by the pandemic in so many ways. The New York County Dental Society has also been affected and we need to stand together and protect this special organization. It is our special home that represents us as Dentists in this City, State, and Country. We know these are tough times for everyone but if you value NYCDS and all that we do, we would greatly appreciate a donation of any size.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times … it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”
-- A Tale of Two Cities, 1859
This famous quote was written at the time our Society was formed!
History shows us that every generation faces its own nightmares, disease, war, depressions, and tragedies.
We have all been affected by the pandemic in so many ways. The New York County Dental Society has also been affected and we need to stand together and protect this special organization. It is our special home that represents us as Dentists in this City, State, and Country. So many have given so much to keep us going over 150 years and now is the time to do more.
In recent years NYCDS has worked hard to reduce a large debt through sound business principles and by moving our facility to cut our rent in half. Yet we keep our dues as low as possible ($215 dollars a year for NYCDS), offer free and low-cost Continuing Education courses, offer free social events, and free guest lectures on timely subject. In addition, we stay engaged on the state and national levels by sending our leaders to the New York State Annual House of Delegates and the American Dental Association House of Delegates meetings. We also go to Washington every year to lobby legislators on behalf of Dentistry and advocate for you on the state and local levels throughout the year.
This year has been exceptionally demanding for our Officers, Board of Directors and staff. They have responded to thousands of phone calls, emails, and text messages concerning COVID-19, PPP loans, sourcing PPE, and lobbying city and state lawmakers on behalf of members. So much work is done behind the scenes you can’t imagine: virtual meetings, phone calls, letters, emails, and virtual lectures fill our NYCDS representatives’ lives.
This may be the most challenging time in our Society’s history. NYCDS would like to continue serving you, our members, but our financial resources have been greatly reduced by the economic slowdown. We have already taken several hard, but necessary steps to cut costs, including a reduction in staff and staff hours.
If this was not bad enough, this year’s Greater New York Dental Meeting (GNYDM) is transitioning its in-person meeting – the biggest dental meeting in the country – to a virtual event. As the Society’s main source of income, this will result in a devastating loss of income for NYCDS. Although there will be a virtual GNYDM, the loss of income from the traditional meeting is substantial and there are still large expenses associated with the meeting that must be financed. We are working hard to find other sources of revenue to make up for this dramatic shortfall -- this appeal is one of them.
We know these are tough times for everyone but if you value NYCDS and all that we do, we would greatly appreciate a donation of any size. Donations are tax-deductible. Our suggested donation is $ 100.00 dollars and you can donate online by clicking the link below.
