Young Professionals are those members of our Society who have been in practice for 10 years or less.
This presentation will be an overview of the field of oral oncology, specifically how different cancers and their therapies can impact the delivery of dental care. Relevant solid and hematological cancers and how they influence the provision of dental care will reviewed, as will different oncological therapies including novel therapeutics within medical and radiation oncology. The chronic and acute oral sequelae and complications of cancer therapy will also be reviewed, with specific detail on how these impact oral health and well being.
Heidi J. Hansen, DMD, is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine. She is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, an Assistant Attending Dentist at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine and the Program Director for the General Practice residency in Dentistry. Dr. Hansen’s clinical expertise and research interests include the management of oral mucosal diseases, the oral adverse effects of cancer treatment, and the dental management of the oncology patient, specifically the management of patients undergoing head and neck radiation therapy, chemotherapy and stem cell transplantation.
