Older adults make up the fastest growing segment of the world population. The projected number of people who will be 65 or older in the year 2050 is 86.7 million, or 21% of the population. This presentation discusses the special needs of the older population, including age-related changes, medical issues, effects of medication, difficulty doing home care, and access to care.

In this presentation, you will learn:

  • the challenges of treating the older patient;
  • common medical issues and common oral systemic issues present in the mouth;
  • how to make your office senior-friendly; and
  • how to educate the older patient and work with families and physicians.

Attendees will learn about the special oral healthcare needs of the aging population and how to perform esthetic and removable dentistry when medical issues and dementia are present.
