This program will present the framework of the NYCDS Mission, Vision, and Values and explore the following topics:

Changes in Dentistry

led by Dr. Marko Vujicic, Chief Economist and Vice President of the Health Policy Institute at the American Dental Association. Dr. Vujicic will discuss the economic and political changes in dentistry and the need for leaders to become advocates.

Ethics, Integrity, & Trust

led by Michael Kendall, Senior Associate General Counsel with the American Dental Association.

Diversity, Inclusion, & Empathetic Leadership

led by April Kates-Ellison, Director of Client Services at the American Dental Association. Ms. Kates-Ellison leads the ADA’s diversity and inclusion strategy. Full program description coming soon. Ms. Kates-Ellison will lead a presentation on:

Inclusive Leadership
As the demographics of dentistry continue to diversify, inclusion must become an implicit part of the ADA’s culture at the national, state and local level. A culture of inclusion will ensure everyone feels welcomed and respected in the midst of diversity. An organization’s journey to achieve inclusion begins with an intentional focus and commitment from leadership. In this session, you will learn how to recognize exclusive behavior through exploration of core concepts of inclusive leadership, including empathy and unconscious bias. You will walk away with a broader understanding of how to foster an environment where diverse perspectives are not only valued, but leveraged to create a relevant and sustainable organization.

Leadership Presence & Communication

led by Jerry Wohletz, an award-winning communications professional and public speaking coach. Mr. Wohletz is a Speechwriter for the American Dental Association. Mr. Wohletz will lead a presentation on:

Analog communication in a digital world: Using your voice to drive results
In a world where videos go viral and tweets crash stocks, face-to-face communication is more valuable (and more urgent) than ever before. Your ability to speak confidently, persuasively, eloquently can advance your career and even deepen your personal connections. This interactive session will show you how to concisely convey your ideas, frame them persuasively so that they drive results, connect your goals with audience needs, and present in a way that is authentic. And you’ll find out why face-to-face communication still has the potential to stir your audience in a way no other medium can.
