Important Considerations for Your Child’s Dental Health

Children’s dental health care has entered a new and exciting era where:

  1. Our understanding of dental caries is increasingly being viewed as an infectious, transmissible disease.
  2. The “dental home” as a new initiative establishes an ongoing relationship between the dental practitioner and the patient which begins by the child’s first birthday.
  3. The concept of “remineralization” and “demineralization” of teeth is having a major impact on dentistry and how it is practiced.
  4. The assessment of “risk level” in the development of caries is becoming more of a means to manage dental disease and individualizing its treatment.

This generation will be the recipient of advances that will result in fewer cavities and filled teeth. As children enter into the various stages of adulthood the knowledge gained will translate in to better dental health with lower costs and less discomfort.
